Can Cats Eat Sweet Potatoes

Your curious cat will not fail to spot a plateful of baked or roasted sweet potato, that you have just laid on the table for a sumptuous supper. Well, you can make your little kitty happy by giving it a little as sweet potatoes are nontoxic to cats ( as per ASPCA) when offered in limited quantities.

How are sweet potatoes good for cats

They are an excellent source of fiber and carbohydrates, besides being rich in antioxidants, vitamins (A, B1, B2 B5, B6), as well as other minerals like potassium, copper, manganese, and phosphorous.  However, the small quantity of it they would be given may not benefit the cats much.

Can sweet potatoes be bad for cats

No, unless they eat it in excess on a frequent basis.

Raw sweet potatoes are not toxic to cats unlike potatoes, as they are not a part of the nightshade family and do not contain the compound solanine. It is still advisable to keep your feline away from it since they may result in digestive hazards.

The leaves and skins should also not be consumed because of the same reason. Moreover, fries, chips, and pies are also a no-no as the calorie, sugar, salt, and additives present in them may pose harm to your cat.

If your cat reacts differently after having even a tiny morsel of sweet potato, contact your doctor at the earliest.
